Most British Muslim families already have a madrasah within reach, so the honest answer is not that online is better but that it is different: one child and one teacher instead of twenty, at a time you choose, with a parent able to watch. Many of our British families do both. Lessons are from £32 a month with three free to start.
The British question is not where, it is how
In most of the UK a family is not short of options. London, Birmingham, Bradford, Manchester, Leicester and Glasgow all have madrasahs, and they are often good ones with teachers who have taught for years.
So the question British parents ask us is rarely “where can my child learn”. It is “my child has been going for two years and still cannot read a page”. That is a different problem, and it usually has the same cause.
What twenty children in a room does to reading
A madrasah class of twenty or thirty children with one teacher gives each child a few minutes of being heard in an hour. Reading aloud is the only part of learning Quran that cannot be done silently in a group, because a wrong sound has to be caught by an ear in the moment it is made.
That is what a one-to-one lesson is for. It is not a replacement for the community a madrasah gives, and we do not ask families to leave one. It is thirty minutes a few times a week where somebody listens to your child and nobody else.
How the timing works around a British school day
- After school
- A 4pm or 5pm slot is the easiest to arrange and the one most British families take.
- After madrasah
- A later slot for children who go to the masjid first. Common on weekday evenings.
- Weekends
- Saturday and Sunday mornings on UK time.
- Thirty minutes
- Long enough to read properly, short enough for a child who has already had a full school day.
Your child keeps the same slot and the same teacher every week. When the clocks change in March and October the slot moves with you.

What a parent sees from the outside
- A supervisor from the academy on every call, not only the teacher and your child.
- Permission to sit in on any lesson, unannounced.
- A family group where the teacher writes what was covered and what to revise.
- A named teacher before you pay anything, and the right to ask for a different one.
- Up to three free trial classes, with no card taken.
Ask your madrasah the same five questions. A good one will answer them happily, and the answers will tell you which of the two your child needs more.
