Online Quran Academy FAQs

Plain answers to what parents ask before they enroll: how the classes run, who teaches, what you need at home, and how fees work.

General questions

What is Live Quran Lessons?

We are an online Quran academy for children, teaching families in the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia and Europe since 2019. Every child learns one-to-one with their own qualified teacher, at times you choose, from wherever you live.

What language are the online Quran classes taught in?

English. If you would rather your child was taught in Urdu, tell us and we will arrange it.

Who are the online Quran courses for?

Children. Some are starting the Noorani Qaida, some are partway through it, and some already read the Quran and want their Tajweed corrected.

Do you give Ijazah?

No. We do not run an Ijazah programme and we do not issue an Ijazah. We teach children to read the Quran with Tajweed and to memorise it, and families who want an Ijazah chain are better served by an academy that specialises in it.

Do you teach Quran with recordings or video lessons?

No. Every class is live, with a qualified teacher present at that moment. We never send recordings instead of live lessons.

What age can my child start learning Quran online?

Children start at 4½ and we teach up to 17. Some bright children start at 4.

How many students are in each online Quran class?

One child with one teacher, never a group.

What happens in an online Quran class?

Your child opens the Google Meet link and the class begins. The teacher shares the screen and teaches from the book, so your child reads along from the page and is corrected as they read.

What does Islamic Studies cover?

The 6 Kalimas with English translation. How to perform ablution (wudu) and prayer (Salah), and how to offer the funeral prayer. Daily duas with English translation, such as before sleeping and before eating. Short surahs from the 30th para, then the whole 30th para or chosen surahs such as Yaseen, Ar-Rahman and Al-Mulk. Ayat-ul-Kursi and the last 2 verses of Surah Al-Baqarah. The 99 names of Allah. Ahadith, the sayings of the Prophet, peace be upon him, with English translation. Stories of the Prophets from the Quran. And questions and answers on matters such as Tawheed and resurrection.

Can we change what is taught in the class?

Yes. If you would rather your child spent every class on recitation, with no Islamic Studies, tell us and we will teach it that way.

I have two children. Do they learn Quran together?

No. Each child has their own teacher, their own lesson, and their own monthly fee. If you want both taught at the same hour you will need two devices. You can also run the classes one after another on a single device. Tell us which suits your home and we will arrange it.

How do you choose your Quran teachers?

Every teacher holds a qualification from a recognized Islamic institution, and several hold professional degrees, including MBBS doctors and clinical psychologists. Nobody is given a student on an application alone. There is a shortlist, an interview, document and reference checks, training in how we teach, and a live demo class we sit in on.

Are your Quran teachers native Arabic speakers?

No. Our teachers are trained in Quranic Arabic rather than raised speaking it.

How are the online Quran classes monitored?

Every class has a supervisor, and all our supervisors are female. She joins the class link about 2 minutes before the teacher and your child, and her first job is to get both of them online. Once the lesson is running she listens in, moving between the classes she is covering. What she is checking is the quality of the class, not your child's recitation. A sound problem, a frozen screen, or a teacher who is not listening closely enough, and she steps in.

What is the WhatsApp group for?

Everything to do with your child is settled there. It has 4 people in it: you, your child's supervisor, the coordinator and the academy manager. Either parent can be in it, or both. Day to day you will hear from the supervisor, usually about timings, by message or voice note. The coordinator comes in when something needs her. The manager comes in for anything administrative. Use it to move a class, ask for a different teacher, or change how your child is taught. We aim to settle it before the next class.

Can I change my child's Quran teacher?

Yes. Send a message in your family group and we will arrange somebody else. The new teacher is told exactly where your child has reached and how they have been taught. The recitation carries on rather than starting again.

How do I register for online Quran classes?

Choose the course you want from the Courses menu and click Register Now. Fill in the short registration form and send it. We will contact you on WhatsApp to arrange your free trial classes, within 24 hours and usually much sooner. If you are happy after those, regular classes begin.

Where do I get the Quran books and course material?

Nothing to buy. The books are our own library, at books.livequranlessons.com.

What do we need to start online Quran classes at home?

A laptop, tablet or phone with a camera, and an internet connection. Classes run on Google Meet, so there is nothing to install. Headphones help but are not required.

How long is each online Quran class?

Trial classes are 30 minutes. A regular recitation class is 30 minutes: about 20 minutes of recitation and 10 of Islamic Studies. We also run 45-minute and 1-hour sessions, normally for teenagers and for Hifz, Tafseer and translation.

How many Quran classes are there in a week?

2, 3, 4 or 5 a week, whichever you choose. That is 8, 12, 16 or 20 classes a month.

How soon can we start online Quran classes?

A trial can start within an hour or two of your reply on WhatsApp. Same-evening trials are normal.

What do you do with my WhatsApp number?

Arranging your trial class is the only thing we use it for, and we never pass it on to anybody. Once classes start it is the number in your family WhatsApp group.

Is my child safe in an online Quran class?

You are welcome to watch any lesson yourself, without asking first, and a supervisor is listening in on every class. No teacher is given a student until we have checked their certificates and references. We then train them in how we teach, and sit in on a live demo class before they start.

Fees and payment

How much do online Quran classes for kids cost?

Live Quran Lessons charges monthly, per child, by the days a week your child attends. 2 days a week is $39, 3 days $49, 4 days $59, and 5 days $65. Each lesson is 30 minutes, 1-to-1.

How can I pay the Quran class fee?

By debit or credit card through Stripe, Visa or Mastercard. You can also pay by bank transfer through Wise. If neither is available where you live, email us and we will arrange another way.

When is the monthly fee due?

In advance, once the free trial classes are finished and your child joins regular classes. After that it is due every month. Missed lessons are covered as per the institutional class compensation policy, but they do not move the due date.

What if I cannot pay on time?

Tell us in your WhatsApp group. Until the monthly fee is received, no make-up classes are given. If money is the reason, ask about the 10% discount we offer low-income families.

Missed and rescheduled classes

How do I move a class to a different time?

Send a message in your family WhatsApp group. To move a class to later the same day, tell us at least 2 to 3 hours before. To move it to another day, tell us at least 1 hour before.

Do we get the class back if we miss one?

If the class was missed because of us, we make it up. That covers a class we canceled, a teacher who joined late, and a lesson disturbed at the teacher's end. If the class was missed at your end without telling us, the teacher will have waited and that lesson counts as taken.

How is a missed class made up?

Either by adding 15 minutes to the following lessons until the time is made up. Or by giving a full class in one of the teacher's vacant slots or at a weekend.

Is there a limit on rescheduling?

Yes. Weekday students can reschedule up to 3 classes a month, and weekend students up to 2. We apply the limit strictly only where rescheduling becomes a habit. If something genuine and rare happens, tell us and we will try to help.

What happens if the teacher is away?

Either the class is rescheduled, or a cover teacher takes it. We tell you in your family WhatsApp group and propose a replacement day.

Technical help

Is there help if something goes wrong during a Quran class?

Yes. Message us on WhatsApp while the class is happening and we will help there and then.

Nobody can hear my child. What should I check?

Check your WhatsApp. The supervisor listens to every class and will have messaged you while the class waits.

Do we get a new class link every time?

No. Your teacher has one Google Meet link and every class runs on it. Save it once. It does not change if your timetable changes.
