What a Quran Academy Should Be Willing to Put in Writing

What should I get in writing from an online Quran academy?

Get six things in a message before you pay: the monthly total in your currency, what happens to a missed lesson, the notice period, whether a card is kept on file, whether you can change teacher, and who else is present in the lesson. An academy that will not write these down is telling you something.

Why in writing

Not because anyone is expected to cheat. Because six months from now the person you spoke to may have left, and a WhatsApp message from March settles in ten seconds what would otherwise be a long, awkward conversation.

It also tells you something now. An academy that answers six plain questions in six plain sentences will answer plainly when your child's teacher is off sick.

The six

  1. The monthly total

In your currency, for the plan you actually want. Not a per-class rate you have to multiply, and not a range.

  2. Missed lessons

Who misses it matters. Ask what happens when the teacher misses one, and separately what happens when your child does.

  3. Notice

How much notice to stop, and how to give it. A month is common and reasonable. Being unable to get an answer is not.

  4. The card

Whether they keep card details, and whether stopping lessons stops the charge automatically.

  5. Changing teacher

Whether you can ask for a different teacher, and whether asking is awkward. Every family needs this eventually.

  6. Who is in the lesson

Your child is alone on a video call with an adult. Ask who else is there and how you can check.

How to ask without sounding difficult

Send them as a short list, before the trial, with one line at the top: we are comparing a few academies and these are the same six questions we are asking everyone. Nobody is offended by that, and the replies are directly comparable.

  • Ask before the trial, not after -- afterwards you are already attached.
  • Keep the reply. Screenshot it if it is on WhatsApp.
  • If an answer changes later, you will have the old one, which usually ends the matter quietly.
  • A vague answer is an answer.

Our six, written down

  • Fees are monthly, paid for the month ahead, and the fee page lists the total in every currency we quote.
  • There is no registration fee, no contract and no minimum term.
  • No card is taken at signup.
  • A supervisor is on every class, and all our supervisors are women.
  • One Google Meet link that never changes, so you can watch any lesson without arranging it first.
  • You can ask for a different teacher, and you do not have to give a reason.
