How does a Quran recitation class work online?

Your child recites aloud, and the teacher corrects the pronunciation of every letter as it is made. It is an individual class, live on video, never a group and never a recording.

The book is open on the teacher's shared screen, so your child recites from exactly the page the teacher is pointing at. Every book is the academy's own, kept in our online library at books.livequranlessons.com, and there is nothing to buy.

A complete beginner starts by learning to recognize the individual Arabic letters, in the Noorani Qaida. A child who already reads Arabic moves directly to Quran recitation, and every class afterwards continues with the same teacher.

What happens in the first class?

The first class is a free trial: 30 minutes, on the same link and with the same teacher as every regular class that follows.

  1. The link arrives

The Google Meet link and its meeting code come to you on WhatsApp. Save them together, because this is the link for every class, not only the first.

  2. The agreed time

Your child opens the link at the agreed time. The teacher waits about 5 minutes for a student, then logs out, so please be on time.

  3. Where the recitation starts

We have already asked you on WhatsApp whether your child is a complete beginner or can read Arabic. The teacher opens the Noorani Qaida or Mus'haf at exactly that point, and the recitation begins.

  4. Afterwards

You decide once the trial classes are finished. Continue, and the monthly fee starts with regular classes, paid a month at a time. Decide against it, and nothing is owed. There is no contract either way, so you can stop in whichever later month you choose, simply by telling us.

What does the Quran teacher correct as my child recites?

The teacher corrects your child's recitation as it is read, letter by letter. Three of the things corrected are the pronunciation of every Arabic letter, the length of every vowel, and where the recitation stops.

The pronunciation of every letter

The position in the mouth where each individual letter is made. Arabic has letters that English does not, and a letter made in the wrong position comes out as another letter altogether.

The elongation of every vowel

A long vowel is held for its full elongation and a short vowel kept short. No sound is held too long or cut too short.

Where the recitation stops

At the end of a verse or at a marked pause, never in the middle of a phrase where the meaning breaks.

Every correction is made out loud, at the moment the pronunciation goes wrong, and with an explanation in whichever language your child follows. That is what a live class gives and a recording cannot.

How do I know what my child did in the class?

After every class the teacher writes a lesson note: what the recitation covered, and what to practice before the following class.

The note links directly to the exact book and page in our online library. It reaches you in the WhatsApp group we open for your family after the trial classes. You need no Arabic to read it, because the teacher writes everything in plain English.

You can also watch any class yourself, whenever you like, without asking anybody beforehand.

How do online Quran classes fit my time zone?

Every class time we give you is already in your own time zone, not ours.

  • Our teachers keep classes running at every hour of the day, which is how time zones from Australia to the USA are reached.
  • Our families are mainly in the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia and Europe.
  • If your routine changes later, say so in your family WhatsApp group, and the regular time is moved to another slot.

What if the internet drops, or we need to reschedule a class?

  • Open the same link again, on a phone if the laptop has lost its internet connection.
  • Message us on WhatsApp during the class, not afterwards, so we can sort it out immediately, while the teacher is still on the link.
  • If the fault is on the teacher's side, or the teacher logs in late, your child gets a make-up class.

A class can be rescheduled as well. To move it to later the same day, tell us 2 to 3 hours before it starts. To move it to another day, 1 hour's notice is enough. Weekday students can reschedule up to 3 classes a month, and weekend students up to 2.

The teacher can be changed too. Ask in your family WhatsApp group, and a different teacher is arranged and told exactly where your child's recitation has reached.

How do I book a Quran recitation class?

Put your country and WhatsApp number in the form. We reply on WhatsApp with a few registration questions: your child's name and age, and whether they are a beginner or have had previous lessons. We also ask the time that suits you and the days a week you want.

That reply comes within 24 hours, and the first trial class can start within an hour or two of your answer. Up to 3 classes are free, no card is asked for, and your number is used only to arrange the trial.

FAQ

The questions parents ask us most, answered.

How do online Quran classes work?

Your child joins on Google Meet at the set time. The teacher shares the screen and teaches from the book, so your child reads along from the page.

How long is an online Quran class?

30 minutes for a recitation class. Hifz runs longer, at 45 minutes or a full hour.

What do we need to join a class?

A laptop, tablet or phone with a camera and a working internet connection. Nothing to install: the class runs on a Google Meet link that opens in a browser. Headphones help but are not required.

Do we get a new link every week?

No. One link, saved once, used for every class. It does not change when the timetable changes.

Do you use Zoom or Google Meet?

Google Meet, for nearly all classes. If your family prefers Zoom, tell us and we can move your classes to Zoom.

What makes your online Quran academy different?

Your child keeps the same qualified teacher every week, at the same time. Every class is one-to-one. After each class the teacher writes a note: what was covered and what to practise.

Are these live Quran classes or recorded lessons?

Live, always. Every class is a live lesson on video with your child's teacher. We never send recordings in place of live lessons.

What will my child learn in online Quran classes?

Beginners start with the Noorani Qaida. From there it is Quran recitation with Tajweed, and after that Hifz, translation or Tafseer, depending on what a family wants. Alongside the Quran your child learns Islamic Studies. Families on 5 days a week keep Friday as Islamic Day, which revises that week's Islamic Studies and adds one new lesson.

Are your online Quran teachers qualified?

Yes, and it is checked before anyone teaches a child. Every teacher holds a qualification from a recognized Islamic institution, and several hold professional degrees as well. Nobody is given a student on an application alone. There is an interview, a document check, training, and a live demo class we sit in on. The academy page sets out each stage.

Who is watching my child's Quran class?

A supervisor. She joins the link about 2 minutes before the teacher and your child, checks that both are online, and listens in as the lesson runs. She is not there to teach: she is there to make sure the class is a good one. If the sound fails, or the teacher is not listening closely enough to your child, she steps in. Every class is supervised, and all our supervisors are female.

How do I schedule my child's Quran class?

Send us your WhatsApp number on the form, or message us on WhatsApp. We ask for your child's age and the times that suit you. A supervisor places your child with a teacher in a slot at that time, in your time zone. We reply on WhatsApp within 24 hours, and usually within hours.

Can we try the online Quran classes before enrolling?

Yes. Take up to 3 free trial classes first. Use them to check the teacher, the timing, and how your child responds before paying anything.

Can parents sit in on the Quran class?

Yes. You are welcome to watch any lesson, without asking first.

What am I committing to, and what if we want to stop?

There is no contract and no minimum term. Fees are monthly, and you pay for the month ahead. If you want to stop, tell us and we will stop. If you need a break instead, any unused balance carries to the next month. Before your regular classes begin, you can withdraw and get a full refund.

How do we stay in touch once classes start?

Through a WhatsApp group we open for your family after the trial classes. It has 4 people in it: you, your child's supervisor, the coordinator and the academy manager. Use it to move a class, ask for a different teacher, or raise anything at all. We try to settle it before the next class.

What do you do with my WhatsApp number?

Arranging your trial class is the only thing we use it for, and we never pass it on to anybody. Once classes start it is the number in your family WhatsApp group.

Is my child safe in an online Quran class?

You are welcome to watch any lesson yourself, without asking first, and a supervisor is listening in on every class. No teacher is given a student until we have checked their certificates and references. We then train them in how we teach, and sit in on a live demo class before they start.

How much do online Quran classes for kids cost?

Live Quran Lessons charges monthly, per child, by the days a week your child attends. 2 days a week is $39, 3 days $49, 4 days $59, and 5 days $65. Each lesson is 30 minutes, 1-to-1.
